The government has ­ordered a clampdown on alleged “horrendous practices” in the water trade, instructing three separate bodies to investigate and prosecute wrongdoing. The chairman of the Almond Board of Australia, Neale Bennett, said some traders and brokers “get away with this behaviour in the water market because it is relatively lightly regulated”. Bennett agreed with Luke Grant that the estate of the water market in Australia is appalling.
