Police have arrested a man after his elderly parents were found dead in a home in Sydney’s south.

The bodies of a 71-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man were found by police at a Sutherland home this morning just after 8am.

Their 46-year-old son is now in custody and has been treated for minor self-inflicted wounds.

Detective Superintendent Jason Box tells Ben Fordham it was a grisly discovery for the officers who attended the scene.

“They always expect the worst every day but coming along and seeing something like that is very traumatic for them.

“They responded to someone who was threatening self-harm… upon arrival, they were allowed entry into the premises by the 46-year-old man and once they’d gone inside they then discovered the bodies of his parents.”
