A Sydney family have been left terrorised after a man allegedly barricaded himself in their home, sparking a siege situation with police.
The family, including a couple, baby and grandparents, say they were woken at 3:45am on Monday morning to a stranger breaking into their Balmain home.
He reportedly told the family he was being chased, before allegedly arming himself with knives and barricading himself in a room.
Police taped off Llewellyn Street as they tried to coax the man from the home.
He was eventually removed from the house before 6am, loaded into an ambulance and taken into custody.
