The Country Women’s Association’s concerns over ‘devaluing’ milk

The Country Women’s Association believes calling plant-based drinks “milk” is devaluing and should be banned.

The association is pushing governments to ban products such as almond, soy or coconut milk to use a different label because they say it is hurting dairy farmers.

Country Women’s Association NSW CEO Danica Leys tells Ben Fordham milk is not the appropriate term.

“We have nothing against any of those products but what we think it does is… devalues and detracts from milk.”

She says they would leave the replacement name “up to the marketers”.

“But they would have to come up with something that we view as correct.”
