‘Worse than lockout laws’: Popular Sydney restaurant under threat
Popular Sydney restaurant Bar M has been forced to close their doors earlier than usual.
The restaurant has been operating until 12am for three years, but now the City of Sydney is forcing them to close at 10pm.
Owner Paula Toppi says she will lose half her earnings, now only being able to take one sitting instead of two.
The council referenced noise complaints as part of the decision but Mrs Toppi tells Ben Fordham she has only received eight complaints in three years.
“The noise complaints are before 8pm, so it’s got nothing to do with trading between 10 and 12, which is the ridiculous part of the whole scenario.
“It’s just normal chit chat on the street, there’s nothing I can do about that… they’re not screaming or shouting, and people are complaining about that.
“Even with the lockout laws, you can keep trading… It’s much worse than lockout laws.”
