Childcare costs skyrocket as some parents forced to pay $200 a day

Ben Fordham

Some parents are being forced to pay $200 a day in early childcare fees.

Data by the Productivity Commission shows Sydney is the second most expensive city in the country for childcare.

On average parents are paying $494 for 50 hours of childcare a week, that’s almost $30 more than the Australian Average.

But some families are forking out $185 or $200 a day.

The Australian Childcare Alliance is calling for a parliamentary inquiry to look into high property lease costs, cutting red tape and changes to staff to child ratios.

NSW President Lyn Connolly tells Ben Fordham it’s putting pressure on young mums, meaning many are unable to return to full-time work.
