Price of milk goes unchanged for 8th consecutive year

As most of the country celebrates Australia Day tomorrow, it also marks a significant anniversary for the dairy industry.

On the 26th of January in 2011 supermarket giant Coles made the decision to cut the price of its private label milk to one dollar per litre.

It kicked off a war with Woolworths, and 8 years on the price at both supermarkets for one litre of private or own branded milk is … one dollar.

To find out more about the devastating impact, rural reporter Eddie Summerfield caught up with New South Wales Farmers’ Dairy Committee Chairman Erika Chesworth.
