Sugar code of conduct to remain

Cane growers have received a much needed boost, with the Sugar Code of Conduct to be retained.

The code was introduced in April 2017, addressing an imbalance of power between growers and milling companies.

It’s caused by the distance between mills and the perishable nature of sugarcane once its cut, meaning growers cannot choose their milling company.

To find out more about what it means for farmers, rural reporter Eddie Summerfield caught up with Canegrowers Association Chairman Paul Schembri.
