Shocking new stats show how dangerous our roads really are over Christmas
The state’s top cop has launched the Christmas road safety campaign, urging drivers to follow the rules.
Commissioner Mick Fuller says police will be targeting everything from fatigue to drink and drug driving.
A recent survey shows more than a third of drivers had nodded off while behind the wheel.
Commissioner Fuller tells Alan Jones drink driving is another big area of concern.
“We have come a long way but the stats are still concerning.
“For every 220 people we pull over, someone’s intoxicated.
“The problem is they’re playing Russian roulette not with their own lives but with our lives.”
Police are also extremely concerned by the number of people using drugs and driving.
“We’ve got random drug testing which is still relatively new,” says the Commissioner.
“For drug testing, it’s one in 12 [test positive].”
