2GB Stands in solidarity with the Jewish Community
Across 2GB today, something a little different, we want you to join us as we take some time to reflect on the past 5 days, and how Sunday’s senseless act at Bondi shook the very foundations of our vibrant, harmonious city.
Today we’re going to focus on the strength and resilience Sydney has shown – how our community has come together, has supported one another, and chosen light over despair.
Because that’s what the celebration of Hanukkah is all about. It’s the Festival of Lights.
Sunday marked the start of Hanukkah .. 8 days and 8 nights, simplified as a story about miracles and oil: and the challenge to keep the light burning, even when the odds feel insurmountable.
And it’s not just a Jewish holiday; Hanukkah reminds all of us to reject the darkness of hate, of prejudice, and of division. And instead celebrate the light of tolerance and humanity.
That’s what our Jewish community was doing on Sunday night, at Bondi and right across the city, they’d come together to celebrate the start of the Festival of Lights.
So today on 2GB, along with all the breaking news and talkback and cricket, we’ll look at how Sydney is healing, we’ll hear stories of courage, and we’ll learn more about Hanukkah, and its message of light and hope .
Yes it’s been a terrible week, and the anger burns deep , but today let’s come together. Let’s show our Jewish community we support them , and let’s KEEP THE LIGHT BURNING.
