A 20-year-old driver has had her license suspended after she was busted travelling almost 80km/h over the speed limit.

The vehicle was spotted by police speeding along the New England Highway, 35km south of Tamworth, on Sunday night.

The female driver was allegedly doing 178km/h in a 100km/h zone.

She was slapped with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

Her license has been suspended for six months and the car’s number plates have been confiscated for three months.

She’s also facing a $2435 fine.
