20-person cap on restaurant bookings takes industry by surprise

Article image for 20-person cap on restaurant bookings takes industry by surprise

The NSW government has seemingly backflipped on plans to remove limitations on group bookings.

Despite former deputy premier John Barilaro pledging to abolish the cap on hospitality venues bookings when 80 per cent of the eligible population is vaccinated, under the new state leadership the 20-person limit will remain.

Restaurant and Catering Industry Association CEO Wes Lambert told Jim Wilson he was surprised by today’s announcement.

“I can tell you that my phone has been blowing up all day with restaurants … and cafés and caterers that are now cancelling hundreds of bookings into late October, and for Melbourne Cup.

“No one wants to organise or prepay for something that isn’t certain.”
