7,000 school cleaners forced to reapply for their jobs

Article image for 7,000 school cleaners forced to reapply for their jobs

The NSW government is forcing 7,000 school cleaners to reapply for their own jobs – with no guarantee they’ll be given their job back.

Cleaners could lose entitlements like sick leave and have no guarantee on what hours they’ll work.

Chris Smith talks to Mel Gatfield from the cleaners’ union, United Voice.

“When you see what cleaners have to deal with on a daily basis, they work really hard.

“They are working at times when no-one else is around and I think that’s the problem here, people don’t realise the hard work they’re doing.

“This is a really heartless decision by this government.

“It’s definitely penny pinching.”
