The state government has appointed a Minister for Disaster Recovery as it’s been revealed donations still haven’t reached bushfire victims.

Hundreds of millions of dollars have been donated from around the world but those impacted by the unprecedented fires still haven’t seen any of the funds.

Overnight, Premier Gladys Berejiklian named her deputy, Nationals leader John Barilaro, as the minister in charge of the recovery effort.

Mr Barilaro has been meeting with victims to find out exactly what they need.

He tells John Stanley they haven’t received anything just yet.

“They just want to see this money flow and the money isn’t flowing, either by government or of course the many donations that have hit so many organisations.

“It’s just not flowing and touching people and I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many people yesterday who just need to see that money flow urgently.

“And that’s going to be my focus.”

In good news for firefighters and affected communities, rain is forecast across much of the state today.

88 fires are still burning across New South Wales but it’s hoped heavy falls may help to extinguish them.

The hard-hit South Coast could receive up to 30mm, Sydney is forecasting up to 20mm but the state’s west and south-west is expected to miss out.
