Barnaby Joyce has announced he will step down as Deputy Prime Minister Monday morning.

It comes months of scrutiny after it was revealed he was having a relationship with his former media advisor.

There is also a fresh sexual assault allegation which Joyce strongly denies.

Ben Fordham speaks with Senator John ‘Wacka Williams’ to get his views on Mr Joyce’s resignation.

“He said this story’s coming out, it’s hurting the party, it’s hurting the government, I might consider stepping down.”

Senator Williams says he didn’t try to convince him otherwise.

“I sent him a text and said look, if I was you, I’d stand down.”

“I’m glad he stood down.

“He’s been a great leader, achieved so much… but he’s also a human being and he’s got a personal life to have as well.

On who will throw their hand up for leader of the National Party, Senator Williams tells Ben it won’t be one of them.

“I only know of one who won’t Ben, and that’s me.”
