The federal government plans to shut the $1 billion-a-year Medicare dental scheme, stopping new patients from accessing much-needed treatment.Do you feel shutting down this scheme will add to the overall cost in treating patients?

james of carlingford: Thank you for your wonderful interview with Ian Thorpe last week, I listened to him very intently and like him i suffer form depression illness. People who dont suffer depression do not understand what Ian and other champions have to go through to attain their goals. Simply the likes of Thorpe, Johns, Slater and others who achieve these great feats are not just champions they are in my eyes heros. I have suffered depression all of my life and over the last 18 months, i have gone through the loss of my Grandmother, my marraige, been made bankrupt and finally through all this i recently lost my mom to cancer i coped with this on my own and it It is only through me reading and listening in awe about famous deppresives that gives me the strenght thank you again and congrats on the number one ranking

Sam Salanitro of Smithfield West: After the disgraceful Milton Orkopolous scandal where Gillian Sneddon was put through the wringer by the corrupt NSW Labor government I will never again vote Labor in any form. These people pretend to be the compassionate side of politics but by their actions have lost any high moral ground. I can not believe that they would bash up a woman so mercilessly that it led to the detriment of her health and they were quite happy to break her financially. I hope this matter goes to some sort of inquiry to flush out all those responsible for trying to hide the grub Milton Orkopolous' behavior.

Ramona of St Clair NSW 2759: I think that is a waste of tax payers money. The age pensioners should be allowed to be able to have the scheme not the every day person with a diabetic or blood pressure and minor illnesses. They could join a health fund like normal working class people. My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer, has worked all his life, paid his taxes and is in a private health fund. Had the operation at 42 was out off pocket about $20,000, where is the justice in that. Maybe we should invest the money in public hospital and get that going because he was a private patient in a public hospital and I was really disappointed in our system. We are in a developed country not a third world country.

That didnt yield enough so they are attacking essential services. All these labor morons have to do is cancel the broadband and global warming projects and associated wastes and redirect the billions back into essential services.

I recently had a need to attend an eye specialist that involved follow up appointments which cost $180. for two appointments - I was shocked to receive only $71. back from Medicare not even half. The government needs to urgently reassess the rebate levels in line with inflation.

Barry Kramer of Bayswater WA 6053: Was visiting NSW recently and listened to your radio show. Was great to here a true Aussie taking full advantage of the freedom and freedom of expressing ones opinion given to us by those who have made the supreme sacrifice, my neighbour recently lost her 21 year old son Sapper James Martin, and boy did that bring it home to all of us. In doing what I can to honour their sacrifice/gift to freedom I have a website that names and shames. To date I have been threatened with defamation x3 by members of our public service and on each occasion my responce was simply "let the proceedings begin". I thank both you and Ray Hadley for using your radio shows to also honouring that gift by speaking your minds and expressing an opinion in such a way that makes bullies accountable. THANK YOU BOTH. Allen Ford of Epping: Regarding NSW Government’s decision to allow housing development at Queanbeyan, don’t expect any common sense from Barry O’Farrell in this matter, considering he has form in stuffing up transport projects. It was he, as local member for a North Shore seat who, in Opposition, campaigned for alterations to the Chatswood-Parramatta rail link to force the crossing of the Lane Cove river by tunnel rather than by surface bridge, thereby adding significantly to the cost blowout of the project, delaying the opening of the link by several years, elimination of the station to serve the UTS campus at West Lindfield, and no doubt contributed to the decision to truncate the line at Epping rather than continue to Parramatta.. Well done, Barry! It seems that by giving him and the Libs a thumping majority in the last NSW election, we have merely swapped one bunch of useless buffoons for another.

Samuel J James of NSW: Madame Jul-liar Gillard and her boofheaded side kick, Swan have made an utterly disgusting mess of our country. The National debt has reached more than $147 Billion dollars spread over three financial years. They are a bunch of wanton, disgraceful, incompetent, rorting, dishonest damned no hopers. I trust the Aussie people will never ever again give this pack of fools the mantle of government anywhere in Australia again. Time to form a new political party to provide us with more choice, utter integrity and absolute professional management, including proven financial and industrial relations skills. I rest my case.

P. Walker of Sydney: The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office. Alan I have been an avid listener to you, however your continued stating that Obama has done nothing about the massive debt, ironically inherited by that idiot man Bush, leaves me speechless. You need to back off a bit or many will follow me to another station. Obama came into office where the banks were running rampant and added to this debt. Please take your blinkers off, I now find myself not defending you. And by god, you need friends at the moment!! What will happen when Abbott inherits our massive debt, with all manufacturing leaving our shores and jobs disappearing under this inept government? No doubt ours will rise also at least for the first 3 years.

Jane Robertson of Robinvale, Vic: My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 18 months ago, we too were in a private health fund and it cost us nearly $30,000 out of pocket expenses in NSW. The only good thing about being in a fund is that you get into a specialist quickly if you are lucky enough to be afford the expense. We were able to pay due to an inheritance but if we didn't have this avenue we could not have the surgery. It is a national disgrace that we are held to ransom when it comes to accessing medical treatment.

You are the voice Alan that many listen to for common sense and for putting everything into perspective. Thank you. I am so sick of madam Gillard attacking Tony Abbott. And the polls. Just where do THEY come from?? I have never been asked for my opinion and I do not know of anyone who has!!At the beginning of the 2nd world war it was known that hitler attacked the Jewish people so vehemently and so aggressively that after constant verbal bashing, the rest of the population were worn down and just like sheep they followed the opinion . The above is just what Gillard is doing. I read recently that the Liberal Party were using Nazi tactics. They should look to their own. Every time a Labor Party minister is interviewed, they say the same words. Does Gillard send a missive out each morning at some God forsaken hour and tell them, "this is what you will say today." ? I can no longer watch Q and A as it makes my blood boil. I live in hope that the legal system will out Gillard and Thompson along with the rest of their cronies SOON!!! I live in hope. Thank you for reading my letter. Yours sincerely Dianna James

Add to that a tax on retirees receiving a superannuated pension. All of this is needed to prop up the utterly failed, abjectly incompetent, rotten, rorting Gillard/Swan dickheaded minority socialist/communist but temporary 'government.' I would like to point out the misandric demeanor of these insecure and weak women to sit back and continue to watch our brothers, fathers, husbands and friends come home in body bags from the war. I would also like to point out the campaign to prevent violence against women and getting homeless girls off the streets. You don't need statistics to see that men are subjected to violence more than women due to gang violence which, is usually the result of our schools not doing enough to encourage boy's education, and more men are homeless! If this isn't a war against men then i don't know what is.

michelle of hawkesbury: Hi there im a single parent on low income working part time. I have been getting ongoing treatment at my local dental clinic as i have a pensioner card.I appreciate its all govt funded as its a necessary thing that all people should have dental work and cleans on a regular basis. I have a gum disease called Periodontal Disease which I obviously have had for many years and my dentist who i used to go to didnt metion how bad it was. Its a diesease that withouth maintenace and ongoing checkups and treatments can mean the loss of teeth. This scares me to death. I have currently been to a private Periodontist who i was referred to by my local dental clinic as they have said now the work needed is out of there hands as they only do minor things such as cleans and fillings. I recently went to the private dentist which i paid $300 to get 7 xrays and for them to tell me i will need to return to get work done. I had the same kind of work done a few months ago throught the govt free but now its going to be an ongoing treatment i will need. I asked how much $1700 plus ongoing checkups every 6-9 months at $300 a visit? I walked out thinking where do i get this kind of money from. I went into my local member of parliment and discussed things with them which they told me about the chronic disease dental scheme. But unfortunatley it ends December 2012 and if any dental work needed was to get the approval before sept 2012. up to $4250 a year. I was just so disgusted in how the govt can wipe this kind of help .All people need dental work and the costs are just sky rocket even for a checkup. Myself being on a low income will have to know go and get a loan to cover the costs of gettting this work done on my gums. I am booked in end of January 2013 to get it done. Its just getting worse and worse for low income people in Australia

After driving trucks for 30 odd years with no incidents you have to wonder why he is being discriminated against. This is the only way he can earn a living. Surely stating that the children need a service more than pensioners is not quite correct. The people losing teeth or having dental problems are the elderly. Kenneth Newton Mitchell of Miranda 2228: I think that there can be a lot to say about Dentistry in general. I am a dentist, so I have a pretty good idea as to what is happening. It is a fact that 30% of Australians do not access dental treatment. At all. 30% of Australians do not go to the dentist at all. Of the remaining 70% , fewer than half go to the dentist rergularly. Of that 70%, I can prove that less than 50% floss daily, fewer than 50% floss. Let's get to the bottom of this dental problem. Less than one half of Australians go to the dentist on a six monthly basis. That is a fact. Let's go even deeper. Less than one third of Austrtalians even go to the dentist on a regular basis. Let's go even deeper into the problem. Less than one tenth of the Australian population go to the dentist on a regular basis. As a dentist, I can prove that people do not go to the dentist. Why? Well, for one thing, people are scared. Scared shitless. Fear of local analgesia, fear of needles. That's one thing. Secondly, I can prove that when a patient shows hope and faith, the dentist shows equal love and care.

TerriTJ of Chatswood: Government medical & dental care should be means tested. Medicare was created for the disadvantaged in our society but now everyone take a piece of it regardless of how much they earn. The Gillard Labour Government is following global trend of socialistic ideology for people to depend on Government for their life style and health care. We saw proof of socialistic dependency with the re-election of Obama in the USA regarding that 42 million Americans are on food stamps and millions out of work, and their country going broke while Obama continues to tax hard working Americans who earn over $200,000 – ‘the rich.’ Australia is next if we don't wake up at the next Federal election as no country can expect prosperity and a strong economy if Government doesn’t encourage/require people to work for a living and not depend on tax payers. Socialistic ideology has already hit Greece, Egypt, Portugal, Spain.

People haven't quite frankly sufferred enough to understand that this government will scrape every single buck out you till you bleed out everything you have been saving up for your retirement. Quite frankly I find this all more surprising with this government how they haven't gone broke and into corruption with the amount of debt they have accumulated during their term (fair go) in the parliment office. I hope people in the lower socio-economic classes are able to keep up with their medical costs to join in for private health benefits.

If they pay to get on a boat, then they need to have $80,000 when they arrive on our shore, which give them the right to have their application for entry. No guarantee that they are excepted. If they have not got $80,000 then they are immediately returned to their place of "birth". No $3,000 when they are returned to their home land. I am over this government handing out our tax dollars to these people, when it could be spent on people who have spent a life time working and paying their taxes.

Janet Quinton of Hassall Grove: I am very angry with the Labor Government over closing the Medicare Chronic Disease Dental Scheme, my disabled daughter was diagnosed at 6 years old with Lennox Gastaut Syndrome and suffers from multiple epileptic seizures, diabetes, thyroid problems, and chronic gum disease, she is also developmentally delayed (about 10 years old) and needs to have her teeth checked and cleaned every six months or her teeth will get loose and fall out. She started to see the local dentist for treatment this year under Medicare after a 2 year wait for an appointment at the dental hospital clinic. I was told by the local Dentist that the new scheme will no longer apply to her because she is 37 years old and would have to pay for treatment, after buying her medications, attending a disable centre 4 days a week and occasional respite care, it doesn't leave much left on the disable pension. What makes me mad and angry is the Gillard government giving away our money over seas and not helping the people at home, after all she is a servent of the public and forgets that.

We were selected by Integral Energy (now Origin/Endevour) for a trial of a "Time of Use Meter" (AKA Smart meter) a few years ago which entailed them installing an electronic meter and telephone modem. The only reason we accepted the offer was the2off $200 incentive payments as the peak energy useage is very expensive, paricually summer afternoons when we used the Airconditioner. I worked as an Electrical and believe that the reason for trying to promote these meters, which incidentally have nothing to do with safety of the wiring or switchboard, is because of the introduction of very expensive so called "Green Power" which can not cope with the demand. Coal fired Power has been inflated in price and used as a Government Source of revenue to accomadate these inefficient Schemes, if Coal fired power capacity is reduced we are in trouble I think. Solar Panels and Windmills are not the answer in my oppinion.
