Well, a salutary lesson for those who talk glowingly about Chinese “investment” in Australia

I see mining magnate Clive Palmer has accused the Chinese owners of a Pilbara iron ore project and nearby port in Western Australia of running the port “like they were in China”

Mr Palmer’s company, Minerology, owns the right to operate the port - Cape Preston

But it is owned by Chinese company, Citic Pacific

And according to Mr Palmer, Citic wants “a situation where they control it and decide who comes and goes”

Well, Julia Gillard is pulling all stops out to persuade the States to sign up to this $14.5 billion Gonski education package at the COAG meeting today

"Are we going to condemn some kids, because we weren't prepared to educate them properly, to a life of welfare and despondency?” she said yesterday

Carbon tax

Well, what a hopeless, predictable mess

This Government never had a clue about what it was doing with this onerous, unnecessary carbon tax

And now the chickens have come home to roost

The European carbon price is currently $3.23 a tonne and is predicted to fall as low as $1.25 a tonne, after the European Parliament refused to take measures to bolster it

And that means the Gillard Government has to cut its revenue forecasts

Well, the coal seam gas lobby is at it again

Complaining this time about the Federal Government’s so-called water-trigger amendment introduced into Parliament on 13 March

This amendment will allow Environment Minister Tony Burke to take into account the effects on groundwater when considering whether to grant approval to coal seam gas mining projects

It hasn’t yet passed the Parliament
