Suzuki S Cross Turbo: a vibrant get up and go small SUV
Suzuki’s small S-Cross SUV is an interesting model for the Japanese car maker – it arrived in 2013 – a small cross-over 2WD and 4WD SUV, surprisingly built in Czechoslovakia. Starting in the early $20,000 price bracket it was far from successful. Suzuki re-specified the S-Cross last December, the rather average 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine and CVT automatic making way for the 1.4-litre turbo and six-speed auto from the larger Vitara SUV. The difference in performance just so noticeable – a dull boring performer making way for a vibrant get up and go small SUV. The front styling and rear styling was also updated, so too the interior with more comfort and convenience items – the downside the entry Suzuki S-Cross rose by $6,000 to $27,990. A big leap in a segment where there is just so much choice. Despite The S-Cross’s much improved performance and increased specification I would still lean towards the more upright Vitara SUV with the same drivetrain – Suzuki best model. I’m David Berthon
