Hyundai freshens its medium-sized Sonata range
The medium car segment continues to struggle, in many ways suffering at the hands of well-equipped and larger small cars – small cars really growing over the last 20 years. With Toyota locally built and sharply priced medium –sized Camry leaving the market Hyundai has thrown its hat in the ring with a revitalized and smartly styled Sonata range – the medium sized Sonata has struggled this year – sales down 46 per cent and Hyundai has added up to $2,000 in value and dropped the mid spec Elite model– the entry 2.4-litre Active six speed auto kicking off at $30,990 a rise of $400 while the premium model 2.0-litre turbo Elite unchanged at $45,490, but gaining an 8-speed automatic. Sat Nav is standard across the range for the first time with a new in-dash 8-inch colour touch screen. Despite the updates Hyundai admit that lifting sales in the medium segment where Sonata sits will be rather difficult. I’m David Berthon
