David Rot Hire, the status of any person who crosses our borders without proper documentation is “Unauthorized Arrival” or “Illegal Immigrant” according to DIAC. Even AFTER a person may be granted Asylum or Refugee status the fact stands those who have arrived in such a manner have arrived or immigrated Illegally. The people smugglers tell these people to ditch their documentation and these Illegal Immigrants pay thousands of dollars to get here so they can jump the queue in the camps overseas. It is an Illegal industry bolstered by people who arrive illegally. There are too many genuine refugees sitting in Refugee camps for years who do not have the thousands of dollars to pay to the scum of the earth people smugglers while the rich from various countries who have never spent a day in a refugee camp decide they’ll come to Australia via an illegal trade in an illegal means. Even the people smugglers themselves have come here so they can set up business here. They are today’s equivalent of slave traders and we need not give this scum a product to sell. There ARE proper channels for Asylum seekers and Refugees to make application to Australia in various camps overseas

I would just like to say how disgusted I am at the hand full of recently elected Federal Members of Parliament (Independents and Green's) who are currently "deciding" who will become our new Government. I thought we lived in a democratic country. These people are out for their moment of glory and what ever they can get for their own electorate.I would rather have another election and I hope these people get voted out.The whole thing makes a mockery of our voting system. It is a fiasco!

wayne, a refugee can apply for a protection visa either off shore or on shore when they arrive. an on shore visa is perfectly acceptable to the UN, as is arriving with no documentation. it is not illegal to do so. an ''illegal immigrant'' must have entered the country first by deliberately avoiding the authorities. the refugees actually hand themselves into the authorities, and are sometimes even accepted while still in international waters[ the tampa ]
