Building the Education Revolution – or opening up the rorting channels?
Questions have been raised about the construction aspects of the Building the Education Revolution (BER) scheme, with a pre-fabricated library at Berridale Public School costing $908,000 under the stimulus spending, while a double brick, toilet block built before the scheme cost just $330,000. Yesterday, Federal Education Minister Julia Gillard defended the program, saying the BER scheme was a monumental initiative, and from time to time there would be discrepancies. However, she insisted any discrepancies would be investigated properly and thoroughly.
What are your thoughts? In a wider sense, is the spending on the BER beneficial in the long run, despite the hiccups? Or is this just opening up another channel for dodgy builders to rort Government coffers?
Have your say.

Hi Ray, I enjoy listening to your show each morning, and hearing the opinions of other listeners.
Yesterday you spoke with Senator Bill Heffernan and he said the Government's handling of the BER was 'ridiculous'. I'd like to take the Senator's comments a step further and say that Labour's handling of this 'scheme' at both Federal and State level, is nothing short of disgusting! Verity Firth's comments this morning show that the Labour party thinks Australian voters will believe anything! WRONG!

Is it time a body such as the ICAC investigates Brad Orgill and his dealings with the BER.From a person who used to be in the top role for UBS, I would have expected more integrity and independance

Dear Ray, Brad Orgill is clearly Julia Gillard's puppet.
The Nation owes you, Ray,a huge debt of gratitude for your unflinching exposure of the home insulation disaster, and now the BER rip off. Please keep the pressure on the bastards.

Has anyone considered the similarity of the BER developers or rort recipients, to the family of the Marcos regime? Jobs, or in this case payments for the boys? Seems there are a few developers who can retire comfortably after the BER and I'd expect that they would be appreciative to those who were responsible but turned a blind eye. Suspicious?

Im a secondary school teacher.. and frankly the government is out of touch "again" ... every student didn't need a laptop. Most now come to school, with NO Pen, NO BOOKS or paper, and spend the majority of the day playing games, watching movies and listening to music... I love being paid $300 a day to provide a babysitting service to kids who are quickly forgetting what a book is and how to write. ONE smart board for fun interactive learning in every classroom would have been a wonderful edition

The government system is set to implode. Why are they rewarded when they fail us. Gillards comments that the government are learning about the system confirms the WRONG PEOPLE are in the decisions making process. How does anyone implement a $16 B project, developed and overseen by people who are openly telling us they are learning. If we the private sector did not enter into consultation we would would fined and jailed. They know they are protected species. THIS MUST STOP, I'VE HAD ENOUGH
