German International School Sydney Open Day

It’s a local school with international education, and its doors are open to the wider community on Saturday, 18th March from 12pm to 3pm.  Come and experience first-hand what the German International School Sydney (GISS) has to offer and which benefits a bilingual education can provide your child.

The German International School Sydney is committed to the educational and cultural values of Australia, Germany and Europe and takes great pride in its effective Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) program.  GISS offers a bilingual education with academic content in both English and German from Kindergarten through to Year 12.  Additional languages are also available for Years 6 with French and Year 9 with Spanish.

In today’s globalised society, the ability to understand other cultures and have an appreciation of the fine art of language is becoming a sought after and well-respected skill set. Furthermore GISS aims for academic excellence and celebrates different cultures and beliefs.

Studies have shown that students who receive a bilingual or multi-lingual education develop cognitive benefits, since the switching back and forth between multiple languages improves the executive functions of the brain such as cognition, attention and memory.

The School’s intensive language learning program, including language immersion and authentic application of language skills, allows students to learn in a similar manner to the way that they have learned their first language.  This real-time immersion learning allows students to flourish in a nurturing environment and reap the educational, academic, emotional and social benefits of a bilingual education.

In addition to the international academic education offered at GISS, students enjoy a unique co-curricular program featuring the German Wheel Gymnastics, making it the only school in Australia offering this as an extra-curricular sporting option. The school recently opened their new multifunctional sports field, boasting a wide variety of sports and activities to promote fitness for their students including soccer, football and basketball.

Open Day provides prospective parents and students the chance to see the school’s facilitiesand chat to the head of departments about what the school can offer you and your child and the unique educational pathways available.
