Corrective Services Minister David Elliott calls in about Parklea mess

The mess at Parklea Correctional Centre continues to worsen with an inmate stabbed in the jail yesterday.

The 23-year-old prisoner was allegedly assaulted by two other inmates, suffering non-life-threatening wounds.

It’s the latest in a series of incidents to face the prison, privately run by the GEO Group.

Labor is demanding the Premier step in and remove the private operators.

NSW Corrective Services Minister David Elliott called Chris Smith to slam the opposition’s comments.

“This is Labor’s contract that I’m dealing with.

“We are now re-tendering Parklea jail. If I provide a running commentary on what’s going on, I could expose NSW taxpayers to a lot of money.”
